Short answer
The FreeStyle Libre app itself typically does not write glucose to Apple Health. To get Libre readings into Health, you need a companion. With Glynce: share yourself via LibreLinkUp, connect LibreLinkUp in Glynce, then allow Glynce to write HealthKit Blood Glucose samples (plus meals, water, and insulin if you log them). Keep the Libre app for setup and official alerts. Readings can lag the Libre app by a few minutes.
You already know Libre. You just want glucose next to sleep and steps in Apple Health. This page is only that: whether the Libre app can do it, and a concrete App Store path if it can’t. For the wider sensor list, see every CGM Glynce connects.
Can the Libre app write to Apple Health?
Usually no. FreeStyle Libre 2 and Libre 3 apps on iPhone typically keep readings inside Abbott’s apps. They are not a simple “share with Apple Health” toggle. That matches what Libre users keep reporting, and it is why Health often shows workouts and sleep but no Libre glucose.
So if Health is empty of blood glucose, you are probably not missing a hidden Libre setting. The Libre app is doing its job. It just isn’t writing to HealthKit.
How to write Libre glucose to Apple Health with Glynce
Glynce does not replace Libre. It follows readings through LibreLinkUp (cloud follower share), then can write them to Apple Health when you grant permission. Full sensor setup notes live in Connecting FreeStyle Libre (LibreLinkUp).
1. Keep the Libre app
You still need it for sensor setup, pairing, upload, and official high/low alerts. Glynce is a companion, not a medical device or clinical tool, and not a substitute for those alerts. Once readings flow, you can also put them on Lock Screen, Watch, and CarPlay.
2. Share yourself with LibreLinkUp
In the Libre app, turn on LibreLinkUp sharing and invite your own follower account. Accept so sharing is active. Menus vary by region and app name (LibreLink, FreeStyle Libre 3, Libre by Abbott).
3. Connect LibreLinkUp in Glynce
- Glynce → Settings → health profile → Connect CGM
- Choose LibreLinkUp
- Sign in with your LibreLinkUp email and password (not your LibreLink login if those differ)
- Wait for readings to appear
Step-by-step: Connecting FreeStyle Libre (LibreLinkUp).
4. Allow Health write access
Grant permission so Glynce can write glucose (and meals, water, and insulin if you log them). Review or revoke anytime in Health → profile → Apps → Glynce. More on how Apple Health permissions work, and the read path if another app already writes glucose: Connecting through Apple Health.
5. Check Apple Health
Open Health and look for Blood Glucose after a few readings. If Glynce has data but Health doesn’t, re-check write permission. If neither has data, re-check LibreLinkUp sharing and that the Libre app is uploading. If values look stuck, see why data can be delayed or missing.
What you get (and what you don’t)
Glynce can write: glucose, meals (nutrition), water, and insulin. It can also read glucose, steps, activity, sleep, and heart rate from Health so the day lines up. Sensor coverage: Supported CGMs.
Glynce does not: replace the Libre sensor or app, replace official Libre alerts, calculate or recommend insulin doses, or turn Apple Health into your clinical system of record. It helps you see patterns in data you already have. For reading the curve itself, how to read your CGM graph.
Expect a short delay. LibreLinkUp is a cloud path, so Glynce and Health can sit a few minutes behind the Libre app. Fine for glances and meals. Not fine as your only safety net. Keep Libre alerts on. Detail: delayed or missing LibreLinkUp data.
One writer. Prefer a single app writing Libre glucose into Health so you don’t get duplicates.
When it matters clinically: use your official CGM app and the confirmation methods your care team gave you (including a fingerstick when they told you to). Do not treat an Apple Health glucose sample as a real-time clinical feed.
FAQ
Does FreeStyle Libre sync with Apple Health?
Usually not through the official Libre / LibreLink apps alone. A companion that reads LibreLinkUp and writes Blood Glucose into Health is the usual path. See Connecting FreeStyle Libre (LibreLinkUp).
Libre 2 or Libre 3?
Users of both commonly report the official apps do not write blood glucose to Apple Health. Your phone is ground truth: open Health and check. Both connect the same way in Glynce via LibreLinkUp on Supported CGMs.
LibreLink vs LibreLinkUp login?
Use LibreLinkUp credentials in Glynce. Wrong account type is a common reason nothing appears. Troubleshooting is in the Libre connect help article.
Does this replace Libre alarms?
No. Glynce notifications are informational and can be delayed. Official Libre alerts stay on. Companion glance surfaces are covered on live glucose.
Meals and insulin into Apple Health too?
Yes, with permission: meals, water, and insulin you log, along with glucose. Logging insulin is recording what you took, not calculating a dose.
Already using another bridge?
If another app already writes Libre glucose to Health, you can point Glynce at Apple Health as a read source instead of connecting LibreLinkUp twice. Don’t run two writers for the same stream. Setup: Connecting through Apple Health.
Do this today
- Confirm Health has no Libre Blood Glucose (expected for most people).
- LibreLinkUp share to yourself → Glynce → Settings → health profile → Connect CGM → LibreLinkUp.
- Grant Health write access → wait for a few readings.
- Leave Libre alerts on.
